Kirtland is famous for being the early headquarters of the Latter Day Saints movement.It is a community the size of 16.7 square miles and is situated on the higher elevations of the Allegheny Plateau. It’s population at the 2000 census was 6,670. 20% of the land area is forest preserve or park land. The Holden Arboretum at 3400 acres is the largest of these. Three Lake County Metropolitan Parks are also located in Kirtland.
